New snowguns to be in place for start of 2018-2019 season

WARWICK, N.Y. (November 8, 2018) – Mount Peter, New York’s family mountain, is upgrading its snowmaking operation prior to the start of the 2018-2019 season with the addition of 11 new snowguns. The purchase and installation is made possible by a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Mount Peter was awarded a grant for $165,000, which is roughly 80% of the cost of the snowguns the ski area is purchasing. The new snowguns are SMI tower guns, which will be an energy-efficient upgrade to their former carriage fan guns. The new equipment is also notably more effective at warmer temperatures, which should make a positive impact on when and how much more snow Mount Peter can create for its many recreational visitors, beginner and competitive racers.

“NYSERDA’s grant program is handled on a first come, first served basis, and Mount Peter was among the first ski areas to take advantage of this generous opportunity from the state,” said Carol Forshay, Marketing Director at Mount Peter. “We’re proud of our reputation for quality snowmaking and expert grooming, and this upgrade to our snowguns is going to help us improve upon that already wonderful reputation.”

NYSERDA, which promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources, developed this program specifically for ski areas to replace their older snowguns. The program allotted a total of $5 million dollars, up to $300,000 per ski area, across the state. Mount Peter was one of the first to be awarded.

Mount Peter is widely known for its Free Beginner Ski & Snowboard School and is proud of its more than 80-year reputation as a family-friendly winter recreation destination. Mount Peter is located at 51 Old Mount Peter Road in Warwick, New York. For more information on Mount Peter visit www.mtpeter.com.
